PA Driver’s License History…Did you Know? Pennsylvania issued its first official state driver’s licenses in 1923. However, the state’s very first driver’s license law was enacted earlier in 1909, which originally required drivers to be at least 18 years old. Pennsylvania began issuing PHOTO driver’s licenses in 1980. Before this transition, licenses were simply paper documents. Since then, the state has periodically updated the designs and security features of its photo ID cards, rolling out a major redesign in late 2022 that features laser-perforated keystone symbols, larger primary photos, and “ghost” photos to prevent counterfeiting.

Come and learn more about Pennsylvania’s driving history with a tour after the breakfast.
